Mandela Day 2016 celebrations

IMG_5067South of Africa celebrated Mandela Day on 18 July 2016 by giving their support to two worthy causes.  A local community outreach in Bela Bela (at the Bela Bela Sanfa Stadium in Mandela Village) was supported by South of Africa’s employees as they set up a soup station for the elderly and local visitors.  The outreach also promoted a healthy lifestyle for the community as well as light athletics for the elderly and differently abled.   Thabo Mothokwa from Bela Bela Game Changers thanked South of Africa for the generosity, support and helping hand in making their Mandela Day initiative happen, with the hope for continued support in future projects as they continue to give back to the community.

Employees from SOA’s Limpopo hotels also journeyed to Mookgopong’s Naboom Home For The Aged.  The team helped with the lunch time preparations and served both the elderly and the employees of the home with hearty food!  SOA Managing Director, Stef Venter, attended the event with the support of staff from Shangri-La, Elephant Springs, Funky Stay and Birdsong.  The team was also joined by Mr Venter’s mother, Magda, who helped with the charity work.

South of Africa boasted branded Mandela Day t-shirts which were clearly visible at both events.  Pictures were posted on the official Facebook pages of the proceedings.  According to HR Manager Khatija Mahomed, who organized the events, she said that she is extremely proud to be part of the SOA Family. “We went out there and did something great for people that are less fortunate than us and we did it with a smile, not just for 67 minutes but for the whole day!”   She also quoted Nelson Mandela’s famous quote “After climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb,” saying that our job doesn’t end here and that it is important to take care of our community every day of the year.
