Farewell Seaside Cottages, Hello Abalone Pool Villas

With winter on the doorstep of the West Coast, Paternoster is about to embrace another season of indoor indulgence.  Winter is also the season when the lifecycle ends of many flora that adorn our coast line – only to be reborn when Spring arrives.  South of Africa’s two Seaside Cottages will soon withdraw from the public eye only to be reincarnated into the opulant 5-star Abalone Pool Villas; scheduled for opening in late July 2017 just in time for the flower season!

The land the units were built on was purchased in 2004.  Building commenced in early 2007 and the two holiday units were opened to the public later that year to great applause.  The Seaside Cottages had been particularly popular with holiday makers who relished the spectacular sea views and infinity pools which had become its iconic trademark.  Apart from the 180 degree views of the Atlantic, guests also benefitted from its proximity to the beach and town center.  Travellers who venture to this cosy fishing village longed for more sophistication, and the units’ association with its nearby 5-star sibling, the Abalone House & Spa, brought forth the next step in its evolution.

The enticing new offering, inspired by the Abalone House brand’s success story, will see the closure of the Seaside Cottages on 31 May 2017.  When it reopens in Spring, departing is proverbial cocoon, the transformation into the Abalone Pool Villas will surprise and delight all future guests.  Guests will enjoy the Pool Villas’ association with Abalone House even more! The hotel, which opened a Reuben’s restaurant and Healing Earth Spa in 2013, has become a sought after destination in the Western Cape; setting the benchmark of what getaways on the West Coast must be.  The Abalone Pool Villas are set to take this decadence to the next step.

The two newly refurbished and well-appointed Abalone Pool Villas will be a unique interpretation of what Abalone House is famed for.  This includes the Tretchikoff prints which will, like Abalone House, also adorn the walls of the Abalone Pool Villas, adding to their mystique.  The additional charm of the units’ location on the hill offers a dreamy element of surprise:  the large glass doors which open up onto vistas of a deep blue, and often turquoise, ocean.

The Abalone Pool Villas are most importantly family-friendly.  This makes these units the perfect escape-to destination any time of the year for families with teenagers or groups of friends.  The Abalone Pool Villas will also include a unique breakfast delivered to the units daily from the Reuben’s Restaurant, enhancing the familiarity with Abalone-brand and making it the most desired West Coast experience.

Guests who wish to be pampered in the splendour of the Abalone Pool Villas need not wait long as bookings will open in late June / early July 2017 on the Abalone House website www.abalonehouse.co.za.  In the interim, a celebration sale to mark the end of the Seaside Cottages is now on.  Book your favourite Seaside Cottage online today at www.seasidecottage.co.za for the month of May at only R999 per unit per night.

Abalone House offers restorative hideaway this winter

winterSouth Africa, Paternoster; The Cape West Coast with its bracing ocean, windswept beaches, endless views and dramatic sunsets is the perfect destination, summer or winter. In the colder months there are few things more alluring than huddling up next to a fire and feasting on sumptuous food. Abalone House, a five-star boutique hotel in the picture-perfect fisherman’s village of Paternoster, one and a half hours’ drive from Cape Town, is the ideal place to recharge this winter.

Boasting a fantastic winter spa special in conjunction with the Healing Earth Spa on the premises, visitors will be pampered from start to finish: accommodation, meals and a two-and-a-half hour spa treatment, employing the healing properties of massage and aromatherapy, are included.

Upon entering the Healing Earth spa, visitors are immediately transported to a serene space… whitewashed floors and wooden loungers echo the seaside setting, while Nguni hides and boldly patterned scatter cushions add an eclectic African touch. Treatment rooms are calm, quiet and wonderfully cosy.

Guests can choose from a coffee, cinnamon and orange body energiser treatment that will leave them feeling rejuvenated, or an African ginger slimming body treatment to get rid of toxins. Healing Earth products boast natural, locally sourced ingredients of the highest quality and offer a holistic approach to spa experiences.

Both treatments start off with a herbal tea to calm and focus the mind, in preparation for the therapeutic actions to follow. Heading off to the treatment room, guests will first experience dry body brushing. This invigorating technique increases lymphatic circulation and stimulates the skin to improve absorption of aromatherapy actives in the body polish. Then a full body scrub will improve circulation and remove dead skin cells, as well as increasing penetration of active ingredients.

This is followed by a soothing bath with energizing salt crystals that contain minerals to replenish the immune system. Next, surrender to a body wrap to drain excess fluid from the body. The coffee, cinnamon and orange body wrap uses the toning and draining elements from cinnamon, orange and coffee extracts, to assist in toning and brightening the skin and improving circulation. The African ginger body wrap tones specific areas and improves skin texture. After a shower, a heavenly full body massage follows with coffee, cinnamon and orange essential oils or an African ginger aromatherapy blend. These oils penetrate the blood stream and lymphatic systems by using a combination of Swedish massage and pressure points to leave you feeling lighter and relaxed. The treatment is finished with an application of corrective cream to targeted areas.

After such a blissful treat, the options are vast: relax in your luxurious suite, enjoy a gentle stroll on the beach, or simply relax by the fire or on the roof deck on a clear day.

Accommodation in one of the luxurious guest suites at Abalone House is included and ticks all the boxes: modern amenities, top quality linens, eclectic décor and sumptuous gourmet meals at Reuben’s – it simply is the perfect pamper package.

The package includes two night’s accommodation at the 5-star Abalone House hotel, one 2.5 hour spa treatment (as described above) per person at the Healing Earth spa, breakfast on both mornings and a 2-course dinner at the highly-acclaimed Reuben’s on both evenings. Cost is R1 945 per person sharing per night and is valid from 1 May to 31 August 2015.

In addition, for those who have limited time but still want a pampering treat, try the Lunchtime Indulgence. This includes a two-course meal at Reuben’s plus a 30 minute Healing Earth spa treatment (choose between a manicure, pedicure or facial) at R395 per person. What’s more, if you book a table for 6 guests, you pay for only 5. This is ideal for a group of girlfriends or even if you’re celebrating a special occasion with friends and family.

The “SOA” Road Trip – Part 2, Seaside Cottage

Seaside Cottages 14Following the recent publication of the “SOA” Road Trip by travel journalist Erik Brits, we are proud to publish the second extract.

PART 2 – SEASIDE COTTAGE

Having been spoilt rotten by our first night’s luxury at Abalone House, we felt that we needed to experience the seaside village feeling as well, and moved to Seaside Cottage (also owned and managed by South of Africa).

Seaside Cottage holds more true to the theme of a fisherman’s cottage, and being self catering you are also isolated from other guests. Although the couch was more than comfortable, the new ambiance inspired us to sample more of the area, so we checked out the Columbine lighthouse and the magnificent rock structures of Tietiesbaai.

That evening we snuggled up under all the provided blankets, but I must say that if it had been summer we might have spent the entire day in the pool – look at that view!
