Abalone Pool Villas – Decadence for all seasons

Abalone Pool Villa

South Africa, Paternoster; PATERNOSTER’S FIRST BUTLER SERVICE is now available at Abalone House’s two newly revamped Pool Villas, situated in the heart of the historic West Coast fishing village. Echoing the vibrant decadence of boutique Abalone House & Spa, the Pool Villas epitomize the finest self-catering accommodation in the village – with butler Xavier Ramsami in attendance to serve a full English or Continental breakfast in suite. Alternatively, breakfast at Reuben’s at Abalone House is offered. The butler service is also available for late afternoon drinks and canapés, as well as for dinner by prior arrangement – both at an additional surcharge.

The two Pool Villas are virtually identical and each sleeps two couples or a family of four. With two spacious and magnificently appointed bedrooms with king beds dressed in fine percale linen, and en suite, both bedrooms lead onto the patio and pool; one of the rooms also has a private balcony with 180 degree sea views all the way to the horizon. But wherever you are in the Pool Villas, the ocean is right outside – just beyond the twinkling rim-flow infinity pool, so uninterrupted sea views are everywhere.

Abalone Pool Villa

The main living area is spacious and beautifully appointed with comfortable couches, while the floor is strewn with Persian carpets. Oversized, colourful Tretchikoff prints add pizzaz to walls. Touches of delft blue and a single red piece can be found in the living area and bedrooms. A coffee pod machine dots each room in the Villa and there is complimentary Wifi throughout.

For winter evenings, there’s a cosy indoor fireplace, along with a Smart TV and Netflix to enjoy – maybe accompanied by a sherry or two. Summertime, the large glass stack doors can be completely folded back to allow indoor-outdoor living around the pool and braai area. There’s also a convenient outdoor shower for washing off beach sand before jumping in the pool.

Abalone Pool Villa

An enticing selection of restaurants are within walking distance of the Villas and serve simple to sensational cuisine, by day and night. However, the fully-equipped and stylish Villa kitchen also encourages easy meal preparation, and the dishwasher does the rest. Both villas are also serviced each morning to keep them pristine and turn downs are done in the evenings – or not, should you request this. There’s plenty of flexibility too around service, to ensure your stay is thoroughly relaxed, enjoyable and luxurious.

Both units have off-road parking, and Villa no 1 has a complimentary lock up garage – with an interleading door into the Villa. A night security guard and watch dog – for additional peace of mind – is also stationed outside the Villas. Before starting his shift, he’ll introduce himself to you, if you’re in.

ABOUT THE YOGA TEACHERS

Justine Barnes
“Yoga gives me the space and clarity I need during challenging times. I try and move through these times as elegantly as possible, and yoga helps me do this!” Justine found yoga in the nineties and having been a dancer for 10 years she was already aware of the beauty of the mind, body connection, but had a yearning to take it to a deeper level. In the beginning she practiced yoga on and off for many years and every time she went back to it, it felt like home.  Now, every day, Justine looks forward to her time on the mat. She did her teachers training with Jacqueline Ivory at Jai Yoga and is a qualified Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga teacher. Justine also has experience in teaching yoga nidra, pregnancy yoga and kid’s yoga. For her yoga is a never-ending journey, there is always more to learn, and she keeps inspired by attending workshops from yogis around the world. Her workshops have been with Sharon Gannon and David Life (Jivamukti), Michael Gannon, Patrick Creelman, Ana Forrest and many more. “The only way to inspire others to practice yoga, is to feel it yourself, and the only way that you can feel it, is to practice it. Yoga is 99% practice, 1% theory!”

Rosalind Langer
Ros came to yoga whilst living on the island of Antigua. Yoga teachers were few and far between, and those that did come to the island, never stayed very long. She began practicing using a dvd: The Primary Series: John Scott. Since then Ros has practiced daily, reading about yoga with an intense hunger, and following her passion. Having been a high school English teacher for 20 years, the ‘teaching’ aspect came quite naturally to her.  In 2012 she did a 7 day workshop with John Scott at Purple Valley in India, and later completed his Teacher Training in Cornwall in January 2013.  “Yoga is my life. My mat is my home. Yoga has become entwined in the very nerve centre of my being. It is my guard: it protects me, fulfils me and is my constant companion. I feel blessed to be able to share this love with others. My Yoga journey never ends. Each student has been a gift that has deepened my love and appreciation of Ashtanga Yoga. I have seen in my self and many others the transformative power of breath, movement and awareness”.

Karen Venter
“Yoga has given me the skills to learn to de-stress and find more freedom in my body, my mind and my life” I found yoga in 2007 where it immediately had a profound effect on my life and I knew then that I had started on a lifelong journey of transformation. I developed a new found respect for my body, my mind and my health. Having been working in the corporate world for a few years, yoga couldn’t have come at a better time! Naturally the call to teach began knocking on my door and I finally took the plunge. I completed my teachers training with Jacqueline Ivory in 2011. In 2013 I travelled to Miami to study under Kino Macgregor and Tim Feldmann and will once again be travelling to study under their guidance in 2015. Being able to share what I have learnt brings me great joy.

Paternoster’s Abalone House and Spa now in a class of its own

reubens1Renowned five-star boutique guesthouse, Abalone House has crossed the threshold into the international hospitality arena. A coveted and highly-acclaimed Reuben’s restaurant along with an esteemed Healing Earth Spa opened today –  elevating Abalone House to new heights of luxury, decadence and service. The finest local cuisine and spa products are now showcased in an atmosphere of pure relaxation and sensual enjoyment.

Reuben Riffel is a celebrated household name in South Africa and is renowned for his culinary prowess. He chooses the best local ingredients, treats them respectfully and prepares them beautifully to create unique taste sensations. Double-baked snoek soufflé with salted apricots, roasted pork belly with chilli-lime and ginger caramel, malva pudding with buttermilk sherbet and Amarula custard hint at the unique cuisine that awaits diners at Reuben’s Abalone House.

“I have always loved Paternoster, since I first visited as a child of 14,” says Reuben. “The place still fascinates me and keeps drawing me back. There’s a unique atmosphere there that is relaxed and special, so I am delighted to have the opportunity to open a Reuben’s restaurant and explore the local ingredients, cook them simply and serve flavoursome food. The menu will be ever changing, though we will certainly keep the signature dishes.”

Tasked with opening Reuben’s at Abalone House, chef Aviv Liebenberg has worked at all three of Reuben’s other restaurants – located in Franschhoek, Robertson and at the five-star resort One&Only Cape Town. He says: “I understand Reuben’s concept well, so I am able to implement it easily in the restaurant. His food has a fresh country feel and is plated beautifully. There’s nothing fussy about Reuben’s cuisine. We prefer to use just a few ingredients simply and well.”

Elegant simplicity is also found in the Healing Earth Spa at Abalone House, which offers African inspired therapies and products in four calm treatment rooms – one customized for couples. This premium organic spa brand believes in ancient African traditions of healing and energy to bring about both health and relaxation. Founder Elisabeth Brandt says: “We have a nurturing, conscious approach to beauty based upon love for oneself, one’s fellow human beings and the earth we live on.”

Abalone House’s Healing Earth Spa will offer unique signature treatments available exclusively to guests with a menu that is a  first for Africa.

The unique Healing Earth products include the Earth Soul range, which uses indigenous ingredients such as Marula and Kalahari Melon, and the Pinotage Grape range – a vinotherapy range with powerful anti-oxidant qualities that is also thoroughly South African.  An enticing menu of face and body treatments is available to guests, and the beautifully soothing surroundings will ensure a deeply enjoyable experience.

Abalone House and Spa, including Reuben’s, is owned and managed by South of Africa, and is their first five-star establishment listing. The company prides itself in offering distinctive and personalized guest experiences across its 18 properties located in Limpopo and the Western Cape.

Flower Season Update

flowers2The latest West Coast Flower Report supplied by West Coast Tourism has caused a renewed interest in the Flower Season in Paternoster.  There are two locations in Paternoster ideal for viewing the flowers, being the Cape Columbine Nature Reserve and Pelgrumsrust (on the road between Paternoster & Vredenburg).

The types of flowers identified are various types of Mesembryanthemaceae,  Reënblommetjie, Kattekruid, Pietsnot, Koggelmandervoet, Suring / Sorrel,  Rooi Malva, Klein Steenbokbos, Bokmaellie, Bobbejaantou, Strand Salie, Namaqua Kool, Bietou, Spekbos, Sjielingbos, Cape Weed, Romulea Barkerae, Paternoster Froetang (endemic to limestone ridges in area),  Candles / Kersies (Parasite), Goue Sterretjie, Steek Groenbasbossie, Varkblom / Arum, Groen Agertjie, Piempiempie and the Poproos.

There are large patches  of flowers in these areas, with few of some and plenty of others.  It is recommended that visitors walk to see the flowers.  Guests are discouraged to drive as some flowers are only 3mm big!

Acceptable rainfall figures were recorded that predicts a good flower season for Spring 2013.  Paternoster is currently experiencing low temperatures during the day as well as over night and it is also fortunate to have up to 2 to 3 days of showers which is a sustainable attribute to ensure a good flower season.

Book your room at Abalone House and the Paternoster Seaside Cottages now to experience the beauty of Spring surrounding our luxurious establishments.
